Maya Moore didn’t win her office ugly Christmas sweater contest, but she did win Twitter’s heart.
On Wednesday, Moore shared a photo of the garland-covered sweater and matching hat she spent four hours making the night before the contest. But to her surprise, Moore says she she came in second place.
Let me tell y’all how I’m never participating in another work contest ..4 hours to make this sweater 4 HOURS ! pic.twitter.com/b9q69AXoLD

On the internet, however, her efforts earned her more than 14,000 retweets, 30,000 likes, and responses of total outrage over her upset. She tells Mashable via DM that she hadn’t anticipated such a huge reaction.
“I don’t know how or why this went viral, as you can see I don’t have many followers,” she wrote. “I posted it originally for my sisters and friends to get a kick out of.”
Moore says this is her first year working as a financial operations analyst at her firm in Maryland, and decided to go all out for her first office contest.
She writes: “Most of my coworkers didn’t care too much about the contest and participated to be team players, so I figured I’d win either first, second or third, but I was shooting for first clearly.”
Though she ultimately lost out, she’s not too worried about it.
“I’m not mad at all that I didn’t win first,” she wrote. “I had fun making it and getting a rise out of my coworkers the entire day.”
Plus, the memes were worth it.
