Dealing with the death of a parent at any age is very difficult, but it’s almost impossible when you’re young.
As an adult, you usually don’t depend on your parents for care and daily help but as a child, when your parents pass away, it forces you to grow up very quickly. You immediately have to learn to care for yourself, as well as deal with emotional grief.
For middle school students whose parents pass away, it can be even more difficult.
Middle schoolers are already dealing with the challenges of adolescence, hormones, and changing emotions and bodies so handlingthe trauma of a parent dying can take a huge emotional toll.
Middle schoolers are known for being mean to one another they take out their insecurities on others and bully kids who are different from them.
So when two students at Fremont Middle School lost their mom, teachers didn’t know how other students would act toward them.
