I‘ve always been one to keep my nails short. I find that the longer they get, the more bothersome they are.
It means upkeep, painting them every few days or so. But many things suddenly become more of a chore than anything else. Forget putting in contacts every morning, and let’s not even talk about the difficulties of typing with long nails!
But grandmother Yani Williams doesn’t care about all that. Theformer salon owner is aiming for the world record: She’s been growing out her fingernails for the past 23 years.
For reference, that’s when President Bill Clinton first took office!
Since then, it’s simply amazing that they haven’t broken. Now, each one is between 20 and26.5 inches in length. Her “talons” make her “exotic,” as Williams likes to put it.
But the grandmother isn’t growing out her nails for the publicity orfame. She and her friends (who also have long nails, but not quite as long as hers) want to show that being differentis a gift, not a curse. She wants others to embrace what makes them unique, too!
The Houston woman is quite close to breaking the world record.
As for doing things in everyday life, she says that her grandkids help her. Everything from driving to eating must be done slowly and meticulously.
Williams is also growing out her toenails. They are at around fiveinches, but she isn’t after thatrecord. Her nephew had to cut out the tops of her shoes to make room for them!
