Looking at Christmas lights is a holiday tradition for many families. Whether or not you decorate your own house with Christmas lights, many people like to spend an evening driving around and looking at other people’s light displays especially the most extravagant ones.
Many people decorate their houses for the holidays, but usually stop at a Christmas tree and a few strands of lights around the house. Some families really go all out, though.
The Thompsons are one of those families that decorates until they truly can’t decorate anymore. Esther and Al Thompson, from Glen Allen, VA, work hard every year to put up gorgeous Christmas lights.
This year, they decided to enter a Christmas-decorationscompetition called“The Great American Light Fight.” Al never thought they would win, but he entered just for fun after all, he spent 578 hours putting up the decorations.
“I always look at ourselves as the house on Wendurst Drive, you know, I make my decorations out of plyboard during the summer and how am I going to compete against these big mega-decorators that have the computerized shows and so on?” Al told ABC 8 when asked about his win. “All homemade, a lot of interactive, all that kind of thing played a part, so we were quite surprised.”
What are they going to do with their winnings? Al and Esther said that they want to give some of the money to their church, and Esther mentioned that she would love to take a trip to Israel.
